If a person’s experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.ĥ. An Associate Degree from an accredited college above from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 2 years of clinical experience (a minimum of 3,640 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If a person’s experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.Ĥ. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college above from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 1 year of clinical experience (a minimum of 1,820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. A Master’s Degree or above from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field which includes a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. SPECIFIC EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE (Continued):Ģ. Current licensure in the Commonwealth as a physician. Ø Required to be a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor certified by the Pennsylvania Certification Board or one of the following:ġ. Ø Maintains established performance and conduct standards in accordance with organizational expectations Ø Assists with research and evaluation activities as required by PA Department of Health Ø Participates in peer consultations, staff meetings and continuing education Ø Effectively and efficiently manages caseload Ø Facilitates referrals to appropriate internal and/or external resources when needed Ø Documents progress notes on regular basis, writes progress reports as required
Ø Coordinates community activities and vocational training for the clients participation and completion Ø Collaborates with the Lead Counselor as needed to determine the client’s continuum of care Ø Assesses clients on a continuous basis to identify changing needs pertaining to the treatment strategy Ø Performs individual, family and group counseling sessions and participates in case conferences Ø Provides substance abuse and mental health counseling services to the in-patient treatment community This includes treatment needs assessment, individual counseling, treatment planning, case management, client advocacy, crisis intervention and coordination of family therapy services and community resources.
The Counselor position is responsible for providing substance abuse treatment counseling services and aftercare planning for assigned clients at the in-patient-based substance abuse treatment facility.
